I wrote Reed Stomp in 2016. At the time, I was just getting into fingerstyle and was messing around in drop D tuning at one of my current band’s practice sessions. Jerry Reed had been playing in my car recently and I got some of his tunes stuck in my head. I had managed to pull a tasty lick inspired by his song “Struttin'” which is the closing song on his 1975 album Mind Your Love. It’s a beautiful and clever lick that has a chromatic bass line walking up hand-in-hand with a well suited melody. It’s the kind of lick that’s got legs that go all the way to the floor.

Reed Stomp — Tab$4.00
Being quite pleased with the lick, it just felt natural to find a jam to go with it. I started wailing on the drop D and started messing around with some blues licks and 7th chords. It all started to feel a lot like another song that inspired me early on in my guitar playing days, a Led Zeppelin song called Bron-Y-Aur Stomp. Bron-Y-Aur Stomp’s got some great energy and guitar work. Thus I got the title Reed Stomp.
Very nice Michelle, love your style. In fact its a “ripper”..(aussie slang for bloody fantastic), thanks for posting
